S.S.Kalairaani
Kalairaani has studies film acting at the Adyar film & TV Institute Chennai and has trained in theatre acting with the avant grande group, Koothu-p-Pattrai. At Koothu-p-Pattarai she had a chance to work with several acclaimed Indian and international directors. She is has acted in over 45 plays and is best known for her performances in plays like Helen of Troy, Good Woman of Szechwan, England, Caligula, Padukalam and No Exit among others. She has performed across India and abroad including Japan, USA, Thailand, Singapore and London.
Later she ventured into solo theatre upon the encouragement of renowned theatre director Veenapani Chawla. Her first solo directorial and acting debut was Penn (woman). So far she has directed and performed 6 solo plays and scripted Mazhai (Rain). Kalairaani has also worked extensively with children through various workshops imparting to them the innovativeness and spontaneity that she is known for and also conducted workshops for management professionals, educationists, women's groups, political activists, transgenders and dancers.
Her roles in films such as ‘Mudhalavan (1999)’, ‘Ramana’ (2002) and Telugu film ‘Azad’ (2000) gained her a lot of popularity and praise even among critics. She received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for best female character artiste for her performance in the 2005 film ‘Kodambakkam’.
Kalai has also trained several debut actors like Gautam Karthik and Tulasi (Kadal 2013), Sirish Sarvanan (Metro 2016) and Ritika Singh (Saala Khadoos 2016) among others.
